A Weekend Walking With The Dog

There’s a reason we call them man’s best friend. You only have to walk down your local high street to see an array of furry family members: labradors, labradoodles, poodles, pugs and spaniels.

If you’ve got a dog (and if you’re reading this blog, the chances are you do) you’ll know that they need walking – daily. But the same walking routes can get boring, especially if you do them day in day out. And walking around the local park isn’t quite the same as walking in the breathtaking Cumbrian fells either…

So, have you thought about whisking yourself away for a walking weekend with the dog? Well, you’re in luck, because we’ve planned out the perfect weekend walking in the beautiful Lancashire countryside for you and your pooch at the dog-friendly Royal Hotel.

A picture-perfect setting

The Royal Hotel is located in the picturesque village of Kirkby Lonsdale. It’s the perfect base for exploring the outstandingly beautiful landscapes of the Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria borders.

With such a wide range of walks right on your doorstep, you can choose from flat footpaths along winding rivers, secluded woodland trails with seasonal blooms or more serious uphill hiking routes. There’s certainly no shortage of places to explore.

Fuelling up

Whatever walk you choose, fuel up beforehand with a hearty breakfast at The Royal Hotel. Treat yourself to delicious pastries, poached eggs on toast, or a hearty full English breakfast – you’ll need the energy if you’re off on a countryside adventure, after all. Make sure to take some snacks along with you too. If you are opting for a particularly long hike, definitely take sandwiches for an extra energy boost if you get peckish. A flask of warm tea or coffee is also always a good idea.

And, of course, don’t forget to pack a few biscuits for your four-legged buddy!

A walk on the wild side

Then head off on a bracing walk in the country. Take in the unspoilt countryside, the rolling green hills, the panoramic views and look out for wildlife along the way. You will soon see why this area is known for its outstanding natural beauty. Dogs will have a great time running and romping around the hills, paddling in rivers and enjoying all of the exciting new sniffs on offer. It beats a quick trot around the block that’s for
